The European Women’s Volleyball Championship ran from the 26th of September to the 4th of October this year, in Europe’s largest port city of Rotterdam. The event attracted a crowd of over 10,000 people, which included our Operations Manager, ex England Volleyball player and general Volleyball enthusiast Neil White…
- There looked like there were lots of exciting games Neil, did you have a favourite?
I was lucky enough to see the Netherlands vs. Turkey semi-final and joined 7,000 Dutch fans dressed in orange inside the fabulously presented Ahoy Sports Centre. The announcer and DJ created a fantastic atmosphere orchestrating the already knowledgeable crowd, and were joined during breaks in play by tournament mascot Spike. The result went 3-0 for Holland and there were jubilant scenes at the end as they celebrated advancing to Sunday’s gold medal match, not just the team but the local organising committee too.
- With England absent from the proceedings, did you adopt another country to get behind?
During the GB programme we welcomed both of Sunday’s bronze medal opponents Turkey and Serbia to Sheffield for European League matches, so I could’ve chosen to support either, but in the end it was no contest – I had to back the Dutch hosts. Not only were they putting on this fantastic show, but the core of the team is rooted from the Martinus club in Amstelveen where the GB Men were based in 2007-08.
- Did you have a favourite Kit?
Easy – the orange kit of the Netherlands supplied by Errea.
Kitlocker are a prominent brand within the British Volleyball community. Working in partnership with Errea we provided kit to the British Volleyball Federation from 2010-2012, until they disbanded after the 2012 Olympic Games. During this time, Kitlocker provided a wide range of items such as bespoke match kits, tracksuits and sweatshirts alongside off-the-shelf training and travel garments.
More recently Kitlocker has supplied kits to London-based Volleyball and beach Volleyball coaching, events and management company Sideout UK. We were particularly proud to provide them with kits for their recent charity event in support of Action For Kids. This event took place from the 6th to the 25th of July, on two pop up beach Volleyball courts in Montgomery Square, Canary Wharf. This event gave players of a range of abilities a chance to get involved with some Volleyball, socialise and see some impressive matches from some of the best players from around Europe, all for a fantastic cause.
Errea are a popular supplier of Volleyball kits to all levels, from amateur teams to the Kit worn by the Dutch national team. Errea already supply several national level teams, which is testament to the quality of the kits they provide. We consider them to be one of our favourite brands for Volleyball kits, with a range packed full of exciting designs and a wealth of technical benefits. Just take a look for yourself at some of our favourite designs for this season…
